2011 Inglis Equine Art Prize

2011 INGLIS EQUINE ART PRIZE WINNER

Kristin Hardiman, from Thornleigh in NSW, Australia has won the inaugural Inglis Equine Art Prize collecting $15,000 for the win.
Kristin's depiction of "Mother and Daughter' from the Everton Stud in Victoria, Australia was a standout.
Kristin beat a field of 34 finalists selected from entries received worldwide.
Judges comments:-

"The judges were very favourably impressed by the enthusiasm for painting and drawing, and for love of the animals shown by all the entrants.
Very soon however, a few entrants began to make a deeper impression. Among several broadly similar pictures, Kristin Hardiman’s winning artwork ‘Mother and Daughter’ made the most enduring impact because it has faithfully captured the emotions of a mare and foal in a setting which is instantly recognizable by anyone who has ever been on a stud farm. The understanding of the structure of the animals has been well understood and realized, as has the relationship between the two horses in a pose which is both true to their natures but is not a conventional image.
The Runner-Up Sheona Hamilton-Grant’s ‘Touch’, is a delicate but strong drawing which also combines a solid structural understanding of the anatomy of the horse with a sensitive appreciation of the gentle interaction between the horse and child.
Both prize winners stood out for their technical competence and understanding of both the anatomy and emotions of the horses."
