The very best in Realism.......

Di King has been awarded the 2011 Mortimore Prize.

Di's home and studio are located at Healesville in Victoria.

Prizemoney for 2011 is $42,000

Judges - Peter Smeeth and Paul Delprat

The Judges comments -

"An intimate sharing of what is obviously a loved landscape and inspiration for this artist. The strength and delicacy in the handling of the tone is masterful. The rocky landfall makes a marvellous Z-line to take the eye from the foreground to the skyline. The excellent handling of the oil paint from the broad rock masses to the wispy grasses is beautifully demonstrated."

SECTIONAL WINNERS - $2,000 EACH

BEST PORTRAIT - BRENT HARVEY - 'THE BUTCHER' - A compellingly life-like portrait of an Aussie bloke. The paintwork is handled in a bravura style. It is gutsy and unpretentious. A good, strong honest portrait.BEST WATERSCAPE - DAVID CLARKE - 'HIGH SEAS' - This is a powerful seascape. The surge and thrust of the sea and the rumbling foam is palpable, and one can almost taste the salt. Overall, a masterful use of the inherantly difficult medium of watercolour.BEST IN SHOW - DI KING - 'ROCKY ESCARPMENT' - SOLD - An intimate sharing of a loved landscape. The strength and handling of the tone is masterful. The rocky landfall makes a marvelous Z-line to take the eye from the foreground to the skyline.BEST SCULPTURE - GLENYS LINDSAY - 'RUFF AND TUMBLE' -A playful piece of sculpture anatomically well observed. These charming creatures remind us again of how wonderfully different is the Australian Platypus.
BEST LANDSCAPE- GRAHAM COX - 'BEYOND KATOOMBA' - A grand little picture of an iconic view of the Blue Mountains having a masterly control. This painting expressing majestic power, is handled in a professional manner.BEST DRAWING - JANELLE FISHER - 'MADE FOR EACH OTHER' - SOLD - This work is a pleasing colour harmony. One can feel the Northern Territory sunlight in this tender drawing of the artist’s canine friends. The watchful eyes draw in the viewer.BEST SMALL - SALLY RYAN - 'I'D RATHER BE FACEBOOKING' - SOLD - This is an exemplar of the small painting. It is a self contained world. This painting reminds one of a Dutch master, but its title beguilingly brings one forward to the present.BEST STILL LIFE - STEVE HARRIS - 'JEN'S TUREEN' - All the elements of this picture a well painted, making it a pleasing whole. The understanding of texture, mass and tonality are well resolved.
